Every Second Counts: Year 8 Embraces Restart a Heart Day
On Thursday 15th October, Year 8 students took part in the annual Restart-a-Heart Day, taking a crucial step towards becoming the next generation of life savers.
Why Restart-a-Heart Day matters?
Every year, thousands of people experience sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting. In these critical moments, immediate bystander intervention is the single most important factor in survival. Performing early CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can more than double a person’s chances of survival. By empowering young people with these skills, we are helping build a safer, more resilient community where anyone can act decisively in an emergency.
Hands-on training with the experts
During the event, each form group attended a dedicated practical session led by the London Ambulance Service. Students were taught how to:
- Recognise the signs of a cardiac arrest.
- Perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) effectively.
- Operate an AED safely and quickly.
Our Year 8 students were exceptionally well-behaved, enthusiastic and engaged throughout the day. The London Ambulance Service team was thoroughly impressed, sharing glowing feedback about how quickly students picked up these practical, life-saving techniques. Every student who completed the training was proud to receive a London Lifesavers badge.
