Year 13 Trip to Polecon

On 11th March, Year 13s had the privilege of attending Polecon 2024 at  Westminster Central Hall, an event for A Level Politics students featuring a number of MPs and Key Speakers who are active in the political sphere. The event was an opportunity for the students to experience the varying perspectives and ideologies present in the UK Political system. Some of the more memorable speeches came from the Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg, who spoke on ‘what underpins Conservative values?’ focussing on the values of the free market, tradition and freedom of speech. We also heard from Richard Tice, leader of Reform UK, and Wes Streeting, Labour Shadow Health Secretary. The main issues touched upon were the upcoming general election, the NHS and the cost of living crisis. The Year 13s found it useful in giving an insight into the variety of policies, strengthening their need for relevant examples within their A Level examinations.

We would like to thank Mr. Claydon and the Politics Department for organizing this trip.
