School Music Concert
This year’s concert was a phenomenal showcase of Whitmore’s musical talent, involving over 100 students from Years 7 to 13. There was a plethora of styles on show, ranging from Samba to String Group, Choir to Concert Orchestra, and Steel Band to Senior Real Book. Little Big Band and Junior Real Book both impressed as well, with members of both ensembles teaming up to form Jazz Band to entertain the large audience during the interval.
This concert was a particularly emotional one, as the current Year 13s have been central to the department, growing from promising Year 7s to Sixth Formers who take exquisite solos and lead outstanding ensembles. Three of them will be going to music college next year after a highly competitive audition process – the Music Department must be doing something correctly!
Many thanks to all the staff and students who made the evening possible – leading ensembles; attending rehearsals and practising hard through the year. Finally, we’d like to thank Ms Hammond for supporting Music at Whitmore, and what’s more, we’re sure we saw her grooving away to Samba at the back…
