Restart a Heart

Restart a heartThis is an annual event that we hold in schoolRestart a heart 4 that teaches students how to respond if they come across a patient who is in need of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). They learn how to use a defibrillator or administer first aid to potential heart attack victims. The focus is to educate and train the general public in CPR and what to do in the event of a heart attack. This is a hands-on event that takes place across Europe, offered by qualified medical professionals.  This year Whitmore was again keen to participate in Restart a Heart Day to ensure the students have a deeper Restart a heart 1understanding and awareness of what to do in these situations – particularly as in the past when a student needed the quick thinking actions of staff and the London Ambulance Service. We were able to welcome a number of staff from the London Ambulance Service to run training sessions for the day with our Years 8 students. The students were really engaged in these hands on CPR training sessions, and the ambulance staff were equally impressed with how mature and respectful the students were when listening and absorbing information related to Restart a heart 2this important skill. We will continue to support Restart a Heart Day and we will attempt to ensure that every student will have the opportunity to access training in CPR as they progress through the school.Restart a heart 6
